Old Flames Burn

Sunday morning, it’s quiet on the street.
He grabs a cup of coffee and a bite to eat.
Wonders what he’ll do to while away the time,
Maybe he’ll take a walk to the Serpentine.
Feed the ducks, go walking in the rain,
Find himself thinking about her again.

How we burn on an old flame!
How we burn… How we burn…
How we burn on an old flame.

She puts on her mascara, fixes her hair,
Checks in the mirror to see if she’s still there.
Tries to read the papers but it’s all bad news,
Wonders what she can do to chase away the blues.
Feed the ducks, go walking in the rain,
Find herself thinking the same old thoughts again.

How we burn on an old flame!
How we burn… How we burn…
How we burn on an old flame.

I look at all the people passing by,
Clouds race away in a brooding sky.
Down on Speakers’ Corner a beard rants and raves,
Telling me about the end of days -
So I feed the ducks, go walking in the rain,
Find myself thinking about her again.

How we burn on an old flame!
How we burn… How we burn…
How we burn on an old flame.
